2020 Leaf Season is Here

While we have enjoyed unseasonably mild temperatures this August, leaves have finally begun turn and fall.  This brings us to the start of Leaf Removal Season, which officially begins today, Thursday November 12, 2020.

Residents are reminded that loose leaves collected from residential properties should be kept separate from household waste.

Leaves should be placed in plastic bags at the curb for collection by the Sanitation Division.

The Sanitation Division will be routinely collecting leaf bags on our regular yard waste day on Mondays, and on each refuse collection day.  There is a ten (10) bag limit for each collection day.

The schedule of leaf collection by the Sanitation Division is as follows:

Monday/Thursday Garbage Collection Schedule:

Up to 10 leaf bags may be placed at the curb in front of each home on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Tuesday/Friday Garbage Collection Schedule:

Up to 10 leaf bags may be placed at the curb in front of each home on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays.

The Highway Division leaf removal crews will also begin making their way through our streets, generally following the street sweeper routes.

Highway Division crews remove fallen leaves from street trees to keep our streets clean and safe.  Please do not rake leaves into the street because it slows the crews attempting to clean our streets.  In addition, placing leaves in the street creates a potential fire hazard for parked vehicles, and creates a flood hazard by clogging our storm water drainage basins during periods of rain.

Residents are also reminded that if they employ a landscape contractor to remove their leaves, the contractor is responsible for removing leaves and may not place them in the street.  In most cases, residents are already paying their landscape contractors for this service.  During leaf removal season, Village enforcement staff will be checking that landscape contractors are not dumping in the streets, and will be issuing summonses to landscape contractors, if necessary.

With the abundance of trees in our Village, fallen leaves will be plentiful.  Every effort will be made to service your area as quickly as possible.  However, as the volume of leaves increases, there will be times our Highway Division crews will be unable to complete each route, each day.  If this is occurs, the crews will begin where they left off on the previous day.

At this time, it is anticipated that leaf removal season will be completed by mid December.

Residents are asked to be patient as our crews proceed through the routes.

If you have any questions regarding leaf season, please call Village Hall at 746‑0750 for the Department of Public Works.
