John S. DaVanzo Community Pool to Open Saturday June 27, 2020

June 23, 2020

The Village Board and I are pleased to announce the opening of the John S. DaVanzo Community Pool on Saturday June 27, 2020 at 11: 30 a.m.

Pool hours will be11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Monday through Sunday.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there are challenges that need to be met and requirements that must be adhered to to ensure a safe and enjoyable summer at our pool.

We understand some residents will have concerns regarding attending the pool this year.  If you feel you are in anyway compromised by your health, or the restrictions we must enforce and have compliance with, we certainly understand that you may not wish to patronize our pool this year.

The operational guidelines we must follow as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic are as follows:

1.  As required in past years, admittance to the pool facility requires a Leisure Pass. Residents, individuals, and families that had a 2019 Leisure Pass should use those passes for entry. If a resident has discarded their Leisure Pass from 2019, and we have your Leisure Pass records on file from 2019, a new Leisure Pass may be obtained at the Leisure Pass Office at the pool starting on Saturday June 27. The Leisure Pass Office is open at the pool each day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

2.  New residents or those residents who did not have a Leisure Pass in 2019 may apply for a Leisure Pass with the appropriate proof of residency.

3.  No child under 15 years of age shall be permitted in the facility unless accompanied by a responsible adult.  The number of residents permitted in the facility or in the water at any time may be limited, regardless if the number is less than the number permitted by social distancing requirements.

4.  Residents must maintain social distancing of at least 6 feet apart from each other at all times, unless residents are with their immediate household or family members.

5.  While in the facility, residents must be prepared at all times to wear face coverings whenever social distancing of 6 feet cannot be maintained.

6.  Since the pool water is disinfected by chlorine, face coverings shall not be required while in the pool, however social distancing of 6 feet is still required.

7.  The pool shall be open to residents in two, 4 hour sessions each day. The sessions will be from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Fifteen minutes prior to the ending of a session, the water will be closed and residents will be asked to exit the water, gather their belongings and exit the facility so the facility can be cleaned for the next session. The number of residents permitted into the facility per session will be based upon the number of people that can be safely socially distanced at 6 feet apart. Social distance areas have been marked off on the pool deck in approximately the same areas where seating is generally permitted.

8.  In order to accommodate our senior residents’ use of our pool, the Senior Swim shall be available to our senior citizens from 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. each day.

9. Residents are advised that exiting the facility during a session shall be final. However, re-entry during a session may be possible under the following conditions:

    A)  There are no residents outside the facility waiting to get in.

    B)  The facility is not at social distancing capacity.

10.  Bathrooms and shower facilities will be available for use. For sanitary reasons, residents are reminded to routinely wash their hands while in the facility. Unfortunately, the locker rooms and changing areas will be closed to the public this summer.

11.  For sanitary reasons, there shall be no chairs or lounge chairs provided. Residents are encouraged to bring their own chair, cushion, or towel. The chair or cushion must fit within the 6-foot social distancing area designated on the pool deck.

12.  Additionally, coolers will not be permitted or stored in the facility.

13.  Given the reduced space available due to social distancing, the pool facility will be open to residents only. No guests will be permitted this summer.

14.  Due to the health requirements and restrictions imposed by social distancing there will be no swimming lessons, swim team, aquacise, Zumba or splash parties provided this summer.

15.  Cleaning and disinfecting of the facility will be ongoing during each open session. A more thorough cleaning will occur during the time between the two sessions and before opening and after closing of the facility.

As a precaution, our staff will have their temperature taken each day prior to beginning their work shift. All staff members will be provided appropriate face coverings and gloves. Staff shall be advised to put their masks on when social distancing of 6 feet separation cannot be maintained.

Given the limitations and restrictions the COVID-19 Pandemic has placed upon all of our lives, we ask our residents to please be patient, understanding and compliant with the requests of our pool staff when the facility is open for use. While the restrictions and limitations we are all forced to comply with may seem overly cautious or difficult, we all must endeavor to adhere to them in order to provide a clean and safe environment at the pool facility. If we all take up the challenge and comply with these new rules we will all be able to enjoy a pool season this summer. Hopefully, this will be just one more step towards our returning to normal life routines.

If there are any questions, or if any further information is necessary, please call the Leisure Pass Office at 516-746-1576.

The Village Board and I are very pleased that we are able to open the John S. DaVanzo Community Pool and provide some necessary relief to our residents. Have a safe and healthy summer!
