PSE&G Undertaking Additional Emergency Repairs on Roslyn Road

Several weeks ago, PSEG began working to repair a fault in the “Y49” cable running underneath Roslyn Road just north of the Mineola-East Williston border.  This is a major electric transmission line running from Westchester County through the Long Island Sound to the South Shore.  Once it was repaired, PSE&G charged the cable and within five hours the cable faulted again, this time near the intersection of Roslyn Rd & Colonial Ave in Mineola.

PSEG immediately began working on this new problem.  The work being done will be somewhat more intensive than the work they performed a few years ago at this same location and the work that was done on Roslyn Road just north of the Village border over the last several weeks.  This is a link to the project’s original fact sheet: https://www.psegliny.com/reliability/EastWilliston

Repairing this new fault is expected to take approximately 2 months.

PSEG will need to close both northbound lanes of Roslyn Road from East 2nd Street to Westbury Avenue.    Traffic on Roslyn Road will be diverted into single north- and south- bound travel lanes utilizing the two southbound lanes.  Traffic control message boards will be placed at or near Old Country Road and near the intersection of Jericho Turnpike and Roslyn Road notifying motorists of traffic pattern changes.

This may create significant traffic concerns, especially with additional vehicular traffic on Roslyn Rd due to the closing of Willis Ave for the LIRR’s 3rd Track project.

On a positive note, unlike the last time this cable was repaired, it is anticipated that the work will not require any adjustments to our village’s water main locations under Roslyn Road.

PSE&G and the Village of Mineola will work together to ensure that residents along Roslyn Road have access to their homes and driveways throughout construction, and that our first responder agencies operating out of Elm Place are unimpeded in their responses.

Thank you for your anticipated patience while these emergency repairs are undertaken.
