National Grid Remind Residents to Call 811 Before Digging

The Importance of Dialing 811

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began in March, the Village of Mineola has been fully committed to protecting and safeguarding our residents.  It is our top priority to serve and provide assistance during these unprecedented and challenging times.   In partnership with National Grid, the Village of Mineola strongly encourages all residents to remain vigilant and cautious when planning home improvement projects.

Nationally every nine minutes, an underground utility line is damaged because someone didn’t contact 8-1-1 before digging.   Striking a single underground utility line can cause injury, repair costs, fines, and inconvenient outages.

For homeowners and contractors alike, please remember the importance of calling 8-1-1 prior to digging.   Calling 8-1-1 can potentially avoid an incident that requires police and fire response.  You should always be prepared to effectively deal with a potentially hazardous situation.  For additional information about 8-1-1 please click here.

Customers are the first line of defense when it comes to gas leak detection and helping to keep homes and the community safe.   If you smell gas anywhere, including in your home, go outside and call 9-1-1 and National Grid’s emergency number immediately:
