LIRR Switch Replacement Project Alters Weekend Schedule September 28-29

This weekend, the LIRR will continue the rebuilding of switches that form part of the Nassau interlocking in and around Mineola Station. This undertaking is part of LIRR Forward, focusing on repairing, replacing and renewing pieces of critical infrastructure that are crucial to our operation and because of their strategic nature, can cause crippling delays. To accommodate this major effort, between Floral Park and Hicksville both Main Line tracks will be taken out of service on Saturday, September 28th and one Main Line track will be out of service on Sunday, September 29th.

On Saturday, there will be no train service to or from New Hyde Park, Merillon Avenue, Westbury or Carle Place, with service provided to Mineola only on trains operating to or from Oyster Bay. In an effort to accommodate customers who may be using other branches during these weekends, the LIRR is doubling service on the Hempstead Branch in addition to running normal (but adjusted) schedules on the Babylon, Far Rockaway, Long Beach, Montauk, Port Washington and West Hempstead Branches, as well as between Ronkonkoma and Greenport.

LIRR tickets will be cross-honored on the N40/N41 NICE bus routes from the Mineola Intermodal Center to the Hempstead bus terminal. In addition, LIRR tickets will be cross-honored on the N22/N24 NICE Bus routes for LIRR customers traveling between Mineola and Hicksville. Visit www.nicebus.com for schedules.

On Sunday, service along the Main Line at New Hyde Park, Merillon Avenue, Westbury, Carle Place and Mineola will resume, while Huntington/Port Jefferson trains will operate less frequently. Ronkonkoma trains will also make some stops at Mineola.
