Weather services are indicating that our region may experience the first significant snowfall of the season this weekend, January 18-20.
In advance of any snowfall that may materialize, we are providing the following reminder of the Village of Mineola's snow regulations. These regulations are automatically in effect whenever it snows:
SPECIAL SNOW REGULATIONS
PARKING PROHIBITED DURING AND AFTER SNOWFALL
No owner or operator of a motor vehicle shall park the same unattended on any road, street, avenue, or highway within the Incorporated Village of Mineola whenever two (2) inches of snow or more falls. No vehicle shall be returned to the road, street, avenue, or highway until the road, street, avenue, or highway has been plowed by the local municipality. The owner of any vehicle in violation of this local law will be summonsed and fined. All motorists are urged to cooperate during snow emergencies.
The snow season is here and all residents and business owners/tenants are reminded of the local law pertaining to the cleaning of sidewalks: No person occupying any private dwelling and no person owning or exclusively controlling any other premises, either vacant or improved, shall permit any sidewalk in front of or contiguous to such premises to remain covered, obstructed or encumbered with ice, snow, dirt, filth, weeds or any other obstructions or encumbrances for more than two (2) hours after a reasonable opportunity has been had to remove same. Debris and snow may not be placed in roadways.
