Minutes of the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Incorporated Village of Mineola

held Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue, Mineola, New York 11501.

Mayor Martins opened the Work Session at 6:50 PM.

 

Resolution No. 288-07

 

Resolved to authorize a public bid for the Rehabilitation of the Well Pump at Well No. 1.

Resolved to award the following public bids:

Chief Scott Holliday gave the Mineola Fire Department report for the month of November 2007 as well a year-to-date activity report.  Chief Holliday gave a status report on the repairs to Company No. 3 as well as information on Operation Santa.

Water Department Supervisor Frederick Booher reported on the Village’s Fire Hydrant Inspections and the placement of orange flags on hydrants for snow visibility.  Mr. Booher also addressed some recent inquiries about the Village’s ability to accommodate  new residential construction with its current water and sewer lines.    

 

Mayor Martins requested a motion to close the Work Session at 7:20 PM.

Mayor Martins opened the Public Meeting at 7:30 PM.

 

Mayor Martins presented Mineola Fire Department Warden Bill Gresalfi and Ex. Chief Gary Mazur with proclamations recognizing their community service and their outstanding work with the Mineola Junior Fire Department. 

 

 

Mayor Martins reported that the Village had received $50,000.00 in settlement money  from Nassau County from the parking lot lawsuit  and that the funds would be used for improvements at the Triangle Park on Old Country Road.

 

Mayor Martins wished everyone a Happy Hanukkah and invited all residents to the Village’s Holiday Tree Lighting on Friday, December 7, 2007 at 7:00 PM.   Mayor Martins reported that the 25-foot tree was donated by the Centennial Committee.

 

Mayor Martins reported that he had recently met with the new President of the Long Island Railroad, Helena Williams.  Mayor Martins reported that they discussed conditions at and around Station Plaza and whether the proposed Third Track was really necessary.   Mayor Martins stated that residents and elected officials need to stand up and not be neutral on this issue. 

 

Mayor Martins announced the appointment of Maryanne Warnecke to the Library Board.

 

Trustee Lawrence Werther commented on the Third Track project and supported Mayor Martins’ position.  Trustee Werther reported that the Mineola Chamber of Commerce presented a check for $5,000.00, raised by the “Mineola in Style” event, to the 1in9 Organization.  Trustee Werther also reported that three Scouts from Troop 45 had become Eagle Scouts.

 

Trustee Linda Fairgrieve reported on the success of the 23rd Mineola Mustang Run.   Trustee Fairgrieve thanked the Commanders of the VFW and American Legion for the Veteran’s Day Ceremony.

 

Trustee Paul Cusato wished everyone a Happy Hanukkah and welcomed Tom Kennedy to the Board of Trustees.

 

Trustee Thomas Kennedy thanked everyone for their support of his appointment to the Board of Trustees.  Trustee Kennedy also thanked the Mineola Fire Department for the Fire Academy training experience.  Trustee Kennedy congratulated Maryanne Warnecke on her appointment to the Mineola Library Board.   Trustee Kennedy gave an update on the Catholic Youth Organization and the Mineola Athletic Association.

 

Mayor Martins commented that a flyer was circulated by the Mineola School district that would enable the Mineola School District to accept approximately $1,000,000 in State aid and asked everyone to support the referendum. 

 

Mayor Martins requested a motion to close the Public Meeting at 10:20 PM.
