Minutes of the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Incorporated Village of Mineola held Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue, Mineola, New York 11501.

The Mineola Fire Department gave a presentation of the
progress on the new fire truck Engine #162 which will be delivered to the
Village by years end, and thanked the Board and residents.
Mayor Jack M. Martins called the Work Session to order at
6:58 PM.

Athletic Associations for the use of the Community Center Gymnasium for its Soccer,
Baseball and Softball practices and clinics on Saturdays and Sundays beginning
Saturday, January 9, 2010 to April 18, 2010 from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Monday
and Tuesday evenings beginning on Monday, January 11, 2010 through Tuesday,
April 13, 2010 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

Village Clerk Joseph R. Scalero presented an October 2009 Justice Court monthly report. Village Clerk Scalero reminded residents that the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held on Friday, December 4, 2009 at 7:00 PM and that the December Holiday Sanitation Schedule will be posted on the Village of Mineola’s website and television programming.

Superintendent of Public Works Thomas R. Rini reported on leaf removal, road resurfacing, tree planting, holiday decorations within the village and the repairs on a bucket truck. Superintendent Rini also presented a progress report on the pool liner project at the John S. DaVanzo Community Pool.
Superintendent of Buildings Daniel B. Whalen presented a monthly department report.

expansion of the curb cut at 300 Foch Boulevard until the house is built.

Village Attorney John M. Spellman announced that the
process has begun regarding the issuance of a Request For Proposal (RFP) for
Municipal Solid Waste Disposal Services and gave an overview of the timeframe required
for the RFP. Village Attorney Spellman also announced that copies are available
for review at the Village Clerk’s Office and at both the Mineola Memorial
Library and the Shelter Rock Library for any interested parties.
Mayor Jack M. Martins requested a motion to close the Work Session at 7:15 PM.

Deputy Mayor Lawrence A. Werther stated that the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony will be on Friday, December 4, 2009 at 7:00 PM and the Nassau Pops and Mineola Choral Society Concert are on December 13, 2009 at Chaminade. Deputy Mayor Werther congratulated newly elected Nassau County Executive, Edward Mangano on his win for County office and commented that it may now be time to revisit the Nassau County Police Department’s grid system to provide increased police coverage to Mineola. Deputy Mayor Werther reiterated to shop locally, whether it’s dining or shopping, this holiday season and wished everyone a Merry Christmas.
Trustee Paul S. Cusato reminded everyone that there are only 21 days left until Christmas and that the “Toys for Tots” collection is still going on and reiterated there are three collection points –Village Hall, Mineola Fire Department and the Library.
Trustee Thomas F. Kennedy stated that the Tree Lighting Ceremony is on December 4, 2009 and that it is a great experience and congratulated the Mineola Fire Department on their new fire engine.
Trustee Paul A. Pereira thanked everyone for their well wishes on the birth of his daughter, Sophia, stated that he is an advisor to the Mineola High School Brain Stormers’ Club and that on Sunday, December 6, 2009 at 6:30 PM Mineola High School competes against East Rockaway High School on the High School Challenge which an be viewed on Cablevision Channel 12. Trustee Pereira then wished everyone a Happy Holidays.
