Minutes of the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Incorporated Village of Mineola held Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue, Mineola, New York 11501.

Mayor Jack M. Martins announced his appointment of
Patricia Strauss to fill the remainder of Nancy Portughese-Bauer’s term on the
Pool Board. Mayor Martins further stated
that this position will be subject to re-appointment in April 2010.

Resolved to approve an annual
request by the Mineola P.A.L. for the use of the Community Center Gymnasium for
its Lacrosse Program on Thursday and Friday evenings from 6:15 PM to 9:30 PM
beginning on Thursday, January 14, 2010 through Friday, April 3, 2010.

Resolved that the Village shall issue a Request for Proposals pursuant to Section 120-w of the General Municipal Law for Municipal Solid Waste Disposal Services to commence on May 1, 2010 and that notice of such issuance shall be published in the Mineola American, in Newsday and as otherwise required by statute.

at 7:40 PM.

Mayor Jack M. Martins congratulated Trustee Paul Pereira and his wife, Diana, on the birth of their second child, Sophia, and wished them well. Mayor Martins reported that he participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony at Winthrop University Hospital to unveil their new Flu Center, noting Winthrop University Hospital is the only hospital on Long Island to open a center of this kind, and thanked Winthrop University Hospital for taking this initiative. Mayor Martins reported that the Town of North Hempstead held a zoning board hearing regarding an application for a hotel building on Westbury Avenue near the eastern border of Mineola.
Trustee Lawrence A. Werther reported that he attended the opening of the Lincoln Exhibit at the Library on November 13, 2009 and suggested that everyone should try to visit it as it is worth seeing. Trustee Werther announced the swearing in of the newest director of the Chamber of Commerce, Robert Valentine, who will be filling the position formerly held by Nancy Portughese-Bauer, and suggested visiting the Chamber of Commerce’s newly re-designed website. Trustee Werther reminded residents to support local merchants and shop locally this holiday season, and wished everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.
Trustee Paul S. Cusato thanked Library Director Charles Sleefe and staff for their efforts in putting together the Lincoln Exhibit, commented on the Mineola Fire Department’s support of the Williston Park Fire Department’s “Wounded Warrior” pancake breakfast, complimented the race committee on the successful “25th Annual Mustang Run”, and wished everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.
Trustee Thomas F. Kennedy reiterated that everyone should visit the Lincoln Exhibit at the Library. Trustee Kennedy thanked everyone who came to the Veterans Day ceremony at Memorial Park, commented on the successful 25th Mustang Run, complemented the Department of Public Works on a good job cleaning up the streets and wished everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.
