Minutes of the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Incorporated Village of Mineola

held Wednesday, November 16, 2005 at the Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue, Mineola, New York.

Mayor Martins opened the Work Session at 6:30 PM.

Representatives from the BWD Group presented the results of the 457(b) Plan bid opening.

Resolved to approve American Funds for the Village of Mineola 457 (b) Plan.

Mayor Martins and the Board of Trustees discussed Village’s current Commuter Parking application.  The Board agreed that requiring some proof of residency such as a utility bill would be an improvement to the verification process.

 

 

 Resolution No. 377-05

 

Resolved to improve the current Commuter Permit application by adding “Proof of Residency” to the existing identification requirements.

Resolution No. 380-05

 

Resolved to award the engineering contract for the repairs to the clearwell at Well #4 to Dvirka and Bartilucci at a total cost of $18,000.00 ($8,000 for the Design and Bidding Phase and $10,000 for the Construction Phase).

Resolution No. 381-05

 

Resolved to approve Superintendent of Public Works Thomas Rini to solicit three proposals for the emergency replacement of the Central Hydraulic Systems on two (2) Highway Department vehicles.  Be it further resolved that the Superintendent is authorized to award to the lowest bidder with a cap of $15,000.00 for both.

Resolved to rescind parking enforcement on Saturdays in the Village of Mineola’s municipal parking lots.

Mayor Martins introduced the members of the Mineola Police Task Force to the Board of Trustees. John Curry, Chairman of the Police Task Force, presented a summary of the Police Task Force Report.

 

Mayor Martins stated that if possible, the Police Task Force Report would be mailed directly to Mineola residents and would be available for viewing at the Mineola Library, Village Hall and on the Village’s website.

 

Mayor Martins requested a motion to close the work session at 7:45 PM.

Mayor Martins opened the Public Meeting at 8:00 PM.

 

Mayor Martins reported on a recent NYCOM Meeting in Albany where he was asked to be Chairman of the Finance Committee.  Mayor Martins reported that the meeting focused on pension reform.

 

Mayor Martins thanked the Department of Public Works for work on the street re-paving project, especially Washington Avenue and north of Jericho Turnpike.  Mayor Martins also thanked all of the members of the Mineola Police Task Force for their work on the Police Task Force Report. 

 

Police Task Force member, Walter Crosby commented on the Police Task Force Report. 

 

Trustee Lawrence Werther reported on the proceeds from the Chamber of Commerce event, “Mineola in Style”.  Trustee Werther gave an update on upcoming Mineola Library events and wished everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.

 

Trustee Linda Fairgrieve gave the Justice Court report.  Trustee Fairgrieve welcomed the Friends of the Mineola Memorial Library as a new sponsor to the Mineola Mustang Run. 

Trustee Fairgrieve also welcomed anyone interested in volunteering for the Mustang Run to contact her. 

 

Trustee Paul S. Cusato thanked the VFW and the American Legion for the Veteran’s Day ceremony at Mineola Memorial Park.  Trustee Cusato congratulated the Mineola High School Soccer Team on their championship victory and wished everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.

 

Trustee John DaVanzo Reported on the Mineola Fire Department. Trustee DaVanzo thanked the VFW and the American Legion for a lovely program on Veteran’s Day.
