Minutes of the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Incorporated Village of Mineola

held Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue , Mineola , New York 11501 .

Chief Scott Holliday gave the Mineola Fire Department report for the month of November.  Chief Holliday reminded residents to change the batteries in their smoke detectors and to replace smoke detectors every 10 years.  Chief Holliday gave an update on Operation Santa.

 

William Barrett of Rynkar, Vail and Barrett, LLC gave a presentation of the Village’s 2006/2007 Financial Statement.

Funding for the purchase of these pieces of equipment is from the 2007 Equipment BAN previously authorized by the Village Board on September 19, 2007 .

Resolved to approve the installation of a “Handicap Reserved” parking space in front of 140 Saville Road .

Superintendent of Public Works, Thomas J. Rini announced that the regular sanitation schedule would be in effect for Veterans Day on Monday, November 12, 2007 .  Mr. Rini also announced that leaf removal would begin on Monday, November 12, 2007 . Mr. Rini stated that leaves must be bagged and that each household may leave up to 10 bags per pick-up as well as on Monday which is the regular compost day.

 

Mayor Martins requested a motion to go into Executive Session at 7:35 PM .

Mayor Martins opened the Public Meeting at 7:50 PM .

 

Mayor Martins and the members of the Board presented the 2007 Mineola Athletic Association Girl’s Softball Team Champions with citations.

 

Village Attorney John Spellman read a letter of resignation from Trustee John S. DaVanzo. 

 

Mayor Martins announced that the Veterans Day ceremony would be held on Sunday, November 11, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Memorial Park.

 

Mayor Martins reported on a problem with the elevator at the Mineola Intermodal Center and asked residents to continue to contact him with any problems at that location. 

 

Mayor Martins congratulated Joan and Walter Hobbs on the dedication of the Mineola Memorial Library Art Gallery . 

 

Mayor Martins reported that he had been meeting regularly with mayors of other villages along the Main Line regarding the Third Track and announced that petitions would be circulated and submitted to Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy asking her to take a stand against the proposed Third Track project.  Mayor Martins asked Trustee Fairgrieve to have the Mustang Run Committee circulate the petitions at the upcoming Mineola Mustang Run. Trustee Fairgrieve agreed to circulate these petitions.  

 

Mayor Martins also announced that the Village was looking for a Christmas tree to be planted in the new pocket park on Jericho Turnpike. 

 

Trustee Lawrence Werther expressed his gratitude to John DaVanzo and thanked him for his years of service.  Trustee Werther congratulated Nassau County Legislator Richard Nicolello and Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman on their election victories.  Trustee Werther reported on the Chamber of Commerce event “ Mineola in Style”.  Trustee Werther announced that his son Lawrence , Jr. was  married on November 11, 2007 and apologized for missing the Veterans Day ceremony at Memorial Park.

 

Trustee Linda Fairgrieve reported that the Mustang Run Committee is working diligently to finish preparations for the Mustang Run on Sunday, November 18, 2007 and that all volunteers are welcome.  Trustee Fairgrieve read the Justice Court Report for September 2007. 

 

Trustee Fairgrieve congratulated Joan and Walter Hobbs on the Mineola Library Art Gallery and also congratulated Legislator Richard Nicolello on his re-election.  Trustee Fairgrieve thanked Trustee John DaVanzo for his years of public service. 

 

Trustee Paul S. Cusato thanked John DaVanzo for all of his years of service and said that he would be sorely missed.  Trustee Cusato reported on the Chamber of Commerce “ Mineola in Style” event and thanked everyone who participated.  Trustee Cusato congratulated ex-Chief Gary Mazur on receiving the Town of North Hempstead ’s Firematic Award and Warden William Gresalfi on receiving the New York State Assembly Firefighter Achievement Award.  Trustee Cusato thanked the MAA Girls Softball Team and coaches. 

 

Chief Scott Holliday announced that the Junior Fire Department Pasta dinner would be held on Sunday, March 8, 2008 .  Chief Holliday reported that the Mineola Fire Department would be at the Mustang Run and would help with circulating the petitions.

 

Village Attorney, John Spellman, reported on the Sports Complex Request for Proposals.  Mr. Spellman discussed a possible hearing in December pertaining to proposed ordinances to address the issue of homelessness.

 

Mr. Spellman asked Mayor Martins and the members of the Board to pass a resolution pertaining for the upcoming Special Permit application for a CVS on Jericho Turnpike.

 

 

Resolution No. 282-07

 

Resolved to declare the application of First Hartford Realty Corp. for a Special Use Permit upon the property known as 17 East Jericho Turnpike as an unlisted action with no significant environmental impact.
