Mayor Jack M. Martins reported that the Halloween Party was a great success, thanked both the volunteers and the staff members of the Recreation Department and the Department of Public Works for a job well done, congratulated our local representatives, County Clerk Maureen O’Connell, County Legislator Richard J Nicolello, Councilman Angelo Ferrara and Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman on their re-election. Mayor Martins commented that regardless of the outcome of the County Executive race, he hopes the transition process at the County will be seamless. Mayor Martins announced that there will be a Veterans Day Memorial Commemoration at 11:11 AM at Memorial Park and encouraged attendance by all, reported that a meeting with the county and town to discuss grant award monies to repair drainage problems in the eastern portion of Mineola was cancelled by the Town Supervisor Kaiman and will be rescheduled. Mayor Martins stated that there was an MTA hearing regarding their Capital Plan and that the Village submitted a statement into the record detailing our concerns. Mayor Martins added that the Third Track program has been removed from the next five year plan, although it remains in the next five-to-ten year segment. Mayor Martins reported that we are expecting delivery of a new fire truck for Company #1 very shortly, and stated that he has requested that Village Attorney John M. Spellman prepare a Request for Proposal (RFP) for curb repair work so that bidding and planning can be completed during the winter with work to commence in the spring of 2010.
Trustee Lawrence A. Werther thanked our veterans for their service and urged residents to attend the Commemoration at Memorial Park on Veterans Day, congratulated our local officials on their re-election, and thanked Recreation staff for the superb job on the Village of Mineola’s Halloween Party. Trustee Werther reported that the Mayor and the Board of Trustees attended a presentation at Mineola High School by the New York Conference of Mayors (NYCOM) regarding the new law passed last year allowing easier dissolution of local governments. Trustee Werther urged residents to shop locally and support our local businesses this holiday season.
Trustee Paul S. Cusato thanked the staff of both the Recreation Department and the Department of Public Works on the fine job done for the Halloween Party, congratulated local officials on their re-election, and announced the joint effort of the Library and Fire Department to administer the “Toys for Toys” program and encouraged all residents to participate.
Trustee Thomas F. Kennedy congratulated local officials on their re-election and thanked Recreation staff for their hard work on the Village Halloween party. Trustee Kennedy congratulated the Mineola Athletic Association (MMA) girls softball team on their championship and thanked the Department of Public Works for their fine work in keeping the fields playable despite poor weather. Trustee Kennedy pointed out that our village maintains it fields, whereas our opponents had to cancel play because their fields, maintained by the town, were not playable.
Trustee Paul A. Pereira discussed village dissolution and the Consolidation Bill and how the Village of Mineola would be very different if it were part of the town instead of an incorporated village. Trustee Pereira commented on the success of the Halloween party and thanked not only staff, but the volunteer groups of the village; seniors, the Mineola Auxiliary Police, the Mineola Fire Department and the Mineola Junior Fire Department, the Mineola Volunteer Ambulance Corp, schools, and everyone else who worked to make it a success.
