Trustee Paul Cusato stated that
he was alarmed by Lou Sanders’ article in the Mineola American regarding the
Police Task Force Operational Report.
Trustee Cusato stated that he thought that John Curry would be
presenting the report.
Mayor Martins responded that
the Operational Report is not a secret and would be presented to the Board when
complete.

Mayor Martins opened the
Public Meeting at 7:30 PM.
Mayor Martins reported that
the Police Task Force Operational Report is nearing completion and will be
mailed to the residents. Mayor Martins
stated that he would prefer to hold the referendum before the end of the year
and that public hearings would be scheduled to allow for review and discussion
of the Police Task Force’s Operational Report.
Mayor Martins stated that there were seven weeks before the end of
November and the Board of Trustees will vote to set a referendum date at the
October 11, 2006 meeting.
Mayor Martins reported that
he met with Inspector Turk of the 3rd Precinct to discuss the status
of
Mayor Martins thanked Nassau
County Legislator Rich Nicolello for aiding in the completion of the paving work
of
Mayor Martins met with the Metropolitan
Transit Authority regarding the LIRR train station,
Mayor Martins reported on a recreational
committee meeting for field improvements, specifically Field #3 alternatives as
well as the former village dump area.
Mayor Martins thanked the committee members.
Mayor Martins reported that
the Centennial Parade, scheduled for October 1, 2006 had been cancelled due to
multiple weather services advisories predicting thunderstorms with
lightening. The Centennial Committee
contacted all of the participants and has rescheduled the parade and fireworks
show for Sunday, October 22, 2006.
Trustee Lawrence Werther
thanked Mayor Martins for appointing him to the committee for Field #3. Trustee Werther gave an update on the Mineola
Auxiliary Police Department and reported that October is Crime Prevention Month
and that educational materials for young people could be obtained by calling
746-2448. Trustee Werther reported on
upcoming events at the Mineola Memorial Library such as vintage photos on display
and Halloween programs.
Trustee Linda Fairgrieve
stated that she was disappointed with the
Trustee Paul Cusato reported on
the MAA Picnic and the various awards that were presented. Trustee Cusato also reported on the Mineola
Fire Department activity for the month of September as well as the upcoming
Trustee John DaVanzo reported
on the Mineola Ambulance Corps calls for the month of Septemeber and said that
more volunteers are needed. Trustee
DaVanzo stated that he feels that holding the referendum on Election Day would
be too confusing to voters.
