Minutes of the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Incorporated Village of Mineola

held Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue , Mineola , New York 11501 .

Chief Scott Holliday gave the Mineola Fire Department report for September 2007.

 

Resolution No. 247-07

 

Resolved to approve the request by Corpus Christi Church for the use of Village streets for a devotional procession on Friday, October 12, 2007 from 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM utilizing the following route:

 

  • East on Garfield to Willis Avenue
  • South to Second and return
  • North on Willis Avenue to Garfield Avenue
  • West on Garfield Avenue back to the Church

Building Department Superintendent Daniel B. Whalen reported on the department’s activities and revenue for August and September 2007.

Resolved to authorize the posting for public bids for the following pieces of equipment:

 

  • 2008 Street Sweeper
  • 10 foot Stainless Steel Salt Spreader
  • 20 Cubic Yard Collection Body
  • 18 Foot Dump Body with Scissor Lift and Tarp System

Resolution No. 252-07

 

Resolved to rescind the “No Parking – Loading Zone” from a point 239 feet from the south curb line of Jericho Turnpike to a point of 305 feet of the south curb line of Jericho Turnpike; and be it further resolved to authorize the installation of “No Parking 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Monday, Wednesday and Friday” form a point 239 feet from the south curb line of Jericho Turnpike to a point 305 feet south of the south curb line of Jericho Turnpike meeting the same existing restriction.

Resolved to rescind the 90-minute parking restriction on Krug Place subject to a 90-day probationary period.

Department of Public Works Superintendent Thomas Rini reported that the Village’s Road Resurfacing project had been completed and that resurfacing of the small hockey rink was nearing completion. 

 

Mayor Martins requested a motion to go into Executive Session at 7:05 PM .

Resolution No. 254-07

 

Resolved to approve to proposed legal settlement with Nassau County which would include the following:

 

  • Creation of 1000 parking spaces on the west side of County Seat Drive
  • Relinquish control of the Triangle Park on Old County Road to the Village of Mineola
  • Payment of $50,000 to the Village of Mineola for improvements to the Triangle Park

Resolution No. 255-07

 

Resolved to set October 17, 2007 as the date for the public hearing for proposed local laws amending the code of the Incorporated Village of Mineola to provide maximum tax benefits available to senior citizens, veterans, disabled persons and volunteer service persons.

Mayor Martins and the Board members discussed the application of Kingdom Family Holdings to construct a 22 unit residential condominium on Main Street at Harrison Avenue .  Mayor Martins reported that the applicant had made the specified modifications and asked the board members for a motion to approve the application. 

 

Trustee Cusato stated that he would like to see a study of the water and sewer system before making his decision.

 

Mayor Martins requested a motion to Table the decision.

Mayor Martins introduced Sam Kelly of the American Red Cross who spoke to Board members and residents on the topic of “Emergency Preparedness”.

 

Chief Scott Holliday announced that the Mineola Fire Department was able to purchase three defibrillators with money raised by the Mustang Run.

 

Resolution No. 256-07

 

Resolved to approve the payment of $500.00 in reward money to any individual who provides information leading to the arrest of persons committing graffiti crime.
