Minutes of the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Incorporated Village of Mineola

held Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue, Mineola, New York 11501.

Resolved to approve a request for the use of village streets for the Annual Mineola High School Homecoming Parade rescheduled for Saturday, November 1, 2008.

Village Clerk Joseph R. Scalero presented a Justice Court tentative financial report for September 2008.

Resolved to approve the request of Building Department employee Keith Gessner to exercise the health insurance “buy-back” option pursuant to the Collective Bargaining Agreement and to pay such sum as stipulated therein.

Resolution authorizing the installation of a “Handicap Reserved” parking space in front of 93 Skelly Place.

Superintendent of Buildings Daniel B. Whalen presented a monthly report on the activities of the Building Department.

 

Superintendent of Public Works Thomas J. Rini presented a monthly report on the activities of the Department of Public Works, including a status report on road resurfacing.

 

Fire Chief Scott Holliday presented a monthly report on the activities of the Mineola Fire Department.

 

Mayor Martins requested a motion to close the meeting at 7:15 pm.

Deputy Mayor Lawrence A. Werther opened the Public Meeting at 7:40 PM.

 

22 observers in attendance

 

Trustee Lawrence Werther announced that the Chamber of Commerce Street Fair has been rescheduled to Sunday, October 5.  Trustee Werther also announced that there would be a Blood Drive at the Community Center October 6 and the annual Halloween Party is October 24.

 

Trustee Paul Cusato thanked NYS Senator Craig Johnson and NYS Assemblyman Thomas McKevitt for speaking up for the Village of Mineola at a September 23 NYS Department of Transportation Hearing regarding Jericho Turnpike.

 

Trustee Thomas Kennedy announced that the “Autism Speaks” Walk-a-thon would be Saturday October 4 at Jones Beach State Park.

 

Trustee Paul Pereira noted that the Mineola High School Homecoming Parade was rained out on September 27 and has been rescheduled to November 1, 2008.

 

Ten speakers addressed the Board

 

Deputy Mayor Lawrence A. Werther requested a motion to close the Public Meeting at 9:30 PM.
