Minutes of the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Incorporated Village of Mineola

held Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue , Mineola , New York 11501 .

Mayor Martins opened the meeting at 6:30 PM .

 

Resolution No. 231-07

 

Resolved to approve the transfer of Community Development Funds from the 30th Program

Year in the amount of $20,000.00 from the Commercial Rehabilitation Line to the Residential Rehabilitation Line as follows:

 

From:   30th Year Commercial Rehabilitation      M104-2568.16   $20,000.00

To:        30th Year Residential Rehabilitation        M103-2568.15   $20,000.00

 

and

 

Resolved to approve the transfer of Community Development Funds from the 32nd Program Year in the amount of $20,000.00 from the Streetscape Jericho Turnpike line to the Residential Rehabilitation line as follows:

AVAILABILITY OF FLOOD INSURNACE BY PARTICIPATION IN THE

NATIONAL FLOOD INSURANCE PROGRAM

Resolved to adopt a Local Law for flood damage prevention as authorized by the New York State Constitution, Article IX, Section 2, and Environmental Conservation Law, Article 36, which would enable Village residents to participate in the National Flood Insurance Program.

Chief Scott Holliday gave the Mineola Fire Department Report for August 2007.

Chief Holliday reported on proposed legislation to consolidate services in the Town of North Hempstead and the effects of this action on the Mineola Fire Department and surrounding villages.

 

Chief Holliday announced that the Town of Hempstead would be honoring Ex-Chief Gary Mazur with the Town of Hempstead Volunteer Firefighter ’s Award for his community service and involvement with the Junior Fire Department on Thursday, October 18, 2007 at 7:00 PM at the Town Hempstead Hall. 

 

Chief Holliday also announced that New York State Assemblyman Thomas McKevitt would be presenting Warden William Gresalfi with the New York State Assembly Firefighter’s Achievement Award for his community service and involvement with the Junior Fire Department on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at the Nassau County Firefighter’s Museum at 7:30 PM . 

 

 

Resolution No. 242-07

 

Resolved to approve the sale of all full and fractional shares of AXA Financial, Inc.,  currently held by the Village of Mineola , for approximately $9,000.00.

Resolved to approve the parade route for the annual Mineola High School Homecoming Parade scheduled for October 6, 2007 at 4:30 PM .

Superintendent of Public Works, Thomas Rini, discussed a proposed list of capital equipment purchases as well as financing via Bond Anticipation Notes.

 

Resolution No. 244-07

 

Resolved to authorize the financing of the purchase of machinery and apparatus for construction and maintenance for the Village of Mineola , stating the estimated maximum cost thereof including cost incidental thereof is $750,000, appropriating said amount therefore, and authorizing the issuance of $750,000 serial bonds of said Village to finance said appropriation.

Mr. Rini also gave a status report on the Village’s Road Resurfacing Project.

 

Trustee Paul Cusato and Mayor Martins discussed the recently published notice for  Requests for Proposals for an enclosed sports complex. Mayor Martins stated that overall it is better to have an open process to allow for any interested bidders to submit a proposal.

 

Mayor Martins requested a motion to go into Executive Session at 8:50 PM .
