held Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue, Mineola, New York 11501.

Resolution No. 216-08

 

Resolved to approve the annual request by the Leisure Club of Mineola for the use of the Community Center auditorium to hold their meetings every Tuesday from 9:30 AM until 4:00 PM, as well as the use of a classroom for line dancing instruction from approximately 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM.

Deputy Mayor Lawrence Werther opened the Public Meeting at 7:30 pm.

 

 

Deputy Mayor Lawrence Werther reported on the Village of Mineola’s September 11 Remembrance Ceremony held at Memorial Park, the recent turnover of Iraq’s Anbar Province to the Iraqi government, an attempted break-in of a Latham Road home, School and Library Board meetings, and a hearing to be held September 16, 2008 by the Town of North Hempstead on its recently amended Accessory Housing Law.  Deputy Mayor Werther also discussed reports that National Grid will begin accessing customers a $25. access fee and commended resident Bill Urianek on his successful ongoing fundraising campaign for Iraq veteran Christopher Levi.

 

Trustee Paul Cusato welcomed the Mineola Junior Fire Department members who were returning from their trip to Hamburg, Germany and congratulated firefighter Bill Gresalfi on being named Honorary Chief in recognition of his long service and commitment to the Mineola Fire Department.  Trustee Cusato also wished students returning to school this week good luck in the upcoming school year.

 

Trustee Kennedy announced that the Nassau County Department of Health had issued a notice that the county would begin spraying mosquito insecticide throughout the area on September 4 & 5 in an effort to prevent a spread of the West Nile virus.  Trustee Kennedy also commended the Department of Public Works for repainting crosswalks before the school year began and preparing village facilities for upcoming events.

 

 

Trustee Paul Pereira reported on the start of the school year and his participation in the photograph gathering for firefighter Matt Doyle who is preparing to leave for U.S. Army deployment in Iraq.

 

Six speakers addressed the Board.
