Mayor Jack M. Martins called the Work Session to order at
6:40 PM.
Mayor Jack M. Martins announced the resignation of
attorney Peter Bee as Counsel to the Planning Board and announced his appointment
of Ben Truncale to replace Mr. Bee. Mayor Martins further stated that this
position will be subject to re-appointment in April 2010.

Mayor Jack M. Martins reported that on September 8, 2009 the Town of North Hempstead is holding a hearing to re-zone areas of Garden City Park along Herricks Road from Business B to Industrial B, which could allow adult uses in that area, further stating that no notice was given to the Village of Mineola or to the Mineola School District and encouraged residents to attend this hearing. Mayor Martins reminded everyone that September 10, 2009 will be the Public Referendum at Village Hall from 6:00 AM – 9:00 PM, reported that the 9-11 Remembrance Ceremony at Mineola Memorial Park will begin at 7 PM and that, in case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at the Mineola Community Center, and noted that on September 16, 2009 there will be a Public Hearing with regard to the Cablevision Franchise Agreement at 6:30 PM at Village Hall.

Mayor Jack M. Martins announced that on September 8, 2009 the Town of North Hempstead is holding a hearing to re-zone areas of Garden City Park along Herricks Road from Business B to Industrial B and that no notification was given to the Village of Mineola or to the Mineola School District and encouraged residents to attend the hearing. Mayor Martins also announced that on September 10, 2009 there will be the Public Referendum at Village Hall from 6:00 AM – 9:00 PM, September 11, 2009 will be the 8th Year Anniversary 9-11 Remembrance Ceremony at Mineola Memorial Park beginning at 7:00 PM. and on September 16, 2009 at 6:30 pm there will be a Public Hearing regarding Mineola’s Cablevision Franchise at Village Hall. Mayor Martins commended the recreation and pool staff for a job well done and further stated that the summer programs were excellent.
Trustee Lawrence A. Werther also commented on the Town of North Hempstead re-zoning hearing, 9-11 Remembrance Ceremony and reminded everyone to drive carefully because schools are opened.
Trustee Paul S. Cusato congratulated the Mineola Fire Department on their blood drive, which collected 52 pints, and thanked County Legislator Nicolello, Mayor Martins and PTAs for their efforts in getting a traffic light on Herricks Road.
Trustee Thomas F. Kennedy commented on the 9-11 Remembrance Ceremony and the displays at St. Paul’s Church in downtown New York City particularly the emergency service companies that responded.
Trustee Paul A. Pereira also commented on the 9-11 Remembrance Ceremony and the displays at St. Paul’s Church, which he has taken his students to see, and also thanked County Legislator Nicolello.
