Minutes of the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Incorporated Village of Mineola held Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue, Mineola, New York 11501.

Resolved to approve a request by the Mineola AARP Chapter 4202 for the use of the community center auditorium from

8:30 AM – 1:00 PM for their 2009/2010 general membership meetings and a general purpose room for their Board of

Directors’ meeting on the following dates:

Resolved to approve a request by United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) Local 342 for a

one day parking permit for the Blood Drive Bus at their union office at 166 East Jericho Turnpike from 1:00 PM – 8:00

PM on Monday August 17, 2009 subject to the follow conditions:

 

·        The bus is to be parked curbside only in front of UFCW offices at 166 East Jericho Turnpike 

                                   

·        The bus is to be operated in such a manner so that it does not impede the flow of traffic on Jericho Turnpike

Resolved to approve the request by Winthrop University Hospital to use the Community Center for the 2009-2010 free

community wellness education series, “Health Update for Seniors and Their Families” on the second Wednesday of the

month from October 2009 through June 2010 from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM.

Resolved to approve the annual request by the Leisure Club of Mineola for the use of the Community Center to hold their

meetings each Tuesday September 8, 2009 –June 29, 2010 from 9:30 AM until 4:00 PM and the use of a two small

classrooms from 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM on the above mentioned dates.

Village Clerk Joseph R. Scalero reminded everyone that taxes paid after July 1, 2009 are delinquent and that

interest and  penalties were imposed as of that date and will continue to accrue each month thereafter until

payment is received.

 

Superintendent of Buildings Daniel B. Whalen presented a July 2009 Financial Report.

Resolved to approve a request for a 90 day extension of the building permit issued for

352 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Water Department Supervisor Frederick Booher presented June and July Water and Sewer monthly report and also presented an annual comparison to 2008 report.

 

Library Director Charles Sleefe mentioned that the library will be hosting the Abraham Lincoln Exhibit from November

12, 2009 through January 10, 2010 and presented a poster of Abraham Lincoln and flyers that he plans to distribute to

the Chamber of Commerce, School Board and various other locations throughout the village and requested permission of

the Board to display the Lincoln poster at Village Hall until the exhibit ends.

Mayor Jack M. Martins congratulated Chief Jeff Clark on his election and administered the oath of office to Capt. Carl

Nunziata and 2nd Lt. Matthew Sanderleaf of the Mineola Fire Department Company 2 and congratulated both officers

and wished them success.

 

Mayor Jack M. Martins requested a motion to go into Executive Session at 7:05 PM

Resolved to approve the application of Madiera Sports Café for outdoor seating with entertainment during the months of May – November subject to the following conditions:

 

1.      No live music or dancing

2.      Music will be ambient (background music)

3.      Music will be limited to:

§         Sunday – Thursday             10:00 PM

§         Friday – Saturday               11:00 PM

Mayor Jack M. Martins congratulated Chief Jeff Clark and the newly installed line officers of Company 2; discussed the “National Night Out” event and thanked Chief Spae and the members of the Mineola Auxiliary Police Department; reported that the meeting he had with Inspector Canavan, Deputy Inspector McCarthy and POP Officer Sikorsky was encouraging and that he looked forward to working with them in the future.

 

Trustee Lawrence A. Werther  reported on the Abraham Lincoln Exhibit coming to the Mineola Library, mentioned that the Chamber of Commerce is combining their “Taste of Mineola and “Mineola in Style” programs into one fundraiser on October 15, 2009 and that the proceeds benefit Mineola organizations.

 

Trustee Paul S. Cusato congratulated Chief Jeff Clark and the Mineola Fire Department.

Trustee Thomas F. Kennedy also congratulated Chief Jeff Clark and the Mineola Fire Department, commented on the summer recreation program, and congratulated the summer Recreation staff.

 

Trustee Paul A. Pereira commented how positive the meeting was with the Third Precinct Commanders, Inspector Caravan and Deputy Inspector McCarthy and that he looks forward to working with them. Trustee Pereira also congratulated the Recreation staff for a great program this year.
