3, 2005 at the Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue, Mineola, New York.

Resolved to approve the request by the Mineola Lodge No. 985 of the Free and Accepted Masons to hold a family picnic for approximately 100 people at Wilson Field on Sunday, September 18, 2005 (rain date Sunday, September 25, 2005 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM (set up to begin at 9:00 AM).

Resolved to approve the request of Guy L. Martin, Executive Director of the Vanderbilt Cup Races to include Jericho Turnpike and Mineola Boulevard in it’s 2005 Centennial Antique Car Parade route on Sunday, September 18, 2005 provide that there is no conflict with the previously scheduled Jay’s World Childhood Cancer Walk.

Resolved to approve Winthrop-University Hospital’s request to use the Community Center from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM for a free wellness education program on the second Wednesday of each month from October 2005 through June 2006.

WHEREAS, the United States of
America was attacked on September 11, 2001 by 19
terrorists
who hijacked four commercial airliners, American Airlines flights 11 and 77,
United
Airlines flights 175 and 93, and flew them into the World Trade Center Towers,
The
Pentagon and a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, the loss of life resulting
from those terrorist acts which caused the Twin
Towers
and a portion of the Pentagon to collapse and the sacrifice of all passengers
and
crew
aboard United Airlines flight 93, totaled 2,973 souls; and
WHEREAS, the response of emergency
personnel, including the sacrifice of 343
members
of the Fire Department of New York, 23 members of the New York Police
Department,
37 members of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police
Department,
9 members of the New York Emergency Medical Services as well as
countless
acts of heroism on the part of First
Responders and civilians alike, saved
thousands
of lives; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of New York,
Americans hailing form every state and people
from all over the world rallied to offer victims and
their families aid, support and comfort;
and
WHEREAS, the World Trade Center was previously attacked by terrorists on
February
26, 1993 resulting in the deaths of 6 people; and
WHEREAS, the World Trade Center Memorial will be build using a combination of
federal
and private charitable funds; and
WHEREAS, the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation is charged with fulfilling
the
mission of remembering the victims of the September
11, 2001 and February 26, 1993
attacks, with honoring the deeds of those who gave
their lives to save others and with
creating a memorial which, through respectful
commemoration, serves as a beacon of
inspiration and hope to all future generations; and
WHEREAS, the memorial to be built at ground zero will be looked upon by the
citizens
of the United States and the world as the National
September 11 Memorial.
RESOLVED, that the World Trade Center
Memorial Foundation should fulfill its
mission by ensuring no facilities that house
controversial debate, dialogue, artistic
impressions or exhibits referring to extraneous
historical events occupy space on the
sacred site at Ground Zero; and that the World Trade
Center Memorial must honor the
mission of creating a dignified and respectful
memorial which focuses exclusively on the
victims, heroes and events of September 11, 2001 and
February 26, 1993.
THIS RESOLUTION IS HEREBY ADOPTED BY THE BOARD OF
TRUSTEES OF THE INCORPORATED VILLAGE OF MINEOLA OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK ON AUGUST 3, 2005.

to approve the purchase of a new emergency generator for the Mineola Volunteer
Ambulance Corps. headquarters at a cost of $4,500 that will come from the
general contingency fund.

Building Department Superintendent, Daniel B. Whalen announced a street closing at the corner of Horton Highway and Jericho Turnpike to allow for the replacement of an air conditioning unit at the Jericho Terrace. Mr. Whalen reported the Building Department’s activities and revenue for the month of July.
Mayor Martins reported that a home and property on Marcellus Road had been purchased by Chaminade High School to act as a buffer during the construction project on Jericho Turnpike. The home and property will be returned to its original use when the construction project is completed.
Water Department Supervisor, Frederick Booher gave the monthly Water Report. Mr. Booher also reported on a letter that he had received from a resident at 271 Hill Street.
Resolved to deny the resident of 271 Hill Street’s request for a replacement water meter and revised bill. Be it further resolved to waive all penalties and late fees and allow for the adjusted balance to be paid in installments over a six-month period.

Mayor Martins reported on an article in Newsday that reported on Brookhaven National Labs transporting contaminated soils via the Long Island Railroad without proper notification.
Mayor Martins urged residents who put their trash out at the curb to do so either on collection day or as late as possible on the evening before.
Mayor Martins discuss part of the Downtown revitalization project that is set to begin on Jericho Turnpike between Willis Avenue and Mineola Boulevard. Mayor Matins also reported on $120,000 in grant money secured by Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy that will be used for sidewalk repairs at Station Plaza.
Trustee Lawrence A. Werther announced that the Mineola Library is in need of a Children’s Librarian. Trustee Werther reported on upcoming events and programs at the Mineola Library. Trustee Werther offered his condolences to Former Mineola Fire Chief Walter Crosby on the passing of his mother.
Trustee Linda Frairgrieve thanked everyone who helped out at the Mineola Mustang stuffing Party and reminded everyone that the run is scheduled for Sunday, November 20, 2005.
Trustee Paul S. Cusato offered his condolences to the family of Mineola Volunteer Firefighter, John Mahon.
Trustee John DaVanzo gave an update on the Mineola Pool. Trustee DaVanzo also announced that the Time Capsule that was buried in 1981.
