Minutes of the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Incorporated Village of Mineola

held Wednesday, July 11, 2007at Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue, Mineola, New York 11501.

Deputy Mayor Werther opened the Work Session at 6:30 PM.

 

Resolution No. 138-07

 

Resolved to approve bills and payroll.

Resolution No. 139-07

 

Resolved to approve the Mineola Golden Age Club’s request for the use of the Community Center Gymnasium from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and the Middle Classroom from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Thursdays beginning on September 6, 2007 through Thursday, June 26, 2008.

Resolved to approve the Mineola Golden Age Club’s request for the use of the West Classroom on Mondays from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM beginning on September 10, 2007 for the arts and crafts program.

Resolved to approve the Mineola Golden Age Club’s request for the use of the West Classroom for a Board Meeting at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 24, 2007 and on Thursday, August 23, 2007 at 10:00 AM for new member registration.

Resolved to approve the Mineola Leisure Club’s request for permission to continue their Tuesday afternoon card games from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM throughout the months of July and August 2007.

Village Clerk Joseph R. Scalero gave an update on the Village’s revaluation project.

 

Deputy Mayor Lawrence Werther requested a motion to adjourn the Work Session at 6:50 PM.

  Deputy Mayor Werther re-opened the work session at 7:30 PM.

Mineola Fire Department Chief Scott Holliday reported on the Fire Department’s activities for the month of June and on the upcoming visit by the Hamburg Junior Fire Department.

 

Deputy Mayor Lawrence Werther opened the Public Hearing at 7:35 PM.

 

 

A Public Hearing was held on Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at 7:35 PM at the Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue, Mineola, NY, 11501 in order to receive public comment upon the following:

 

            APPLICATION OF ON DECK BATTING, LLC FOR A SPECIAL

                PERMIT, PURSUANT TO CHAPTER 30 OF THE CODE OF THE

                INCORPORATED VILLAGE OF MINEOLA, ENTITLED “ZONING”,

                SECTION 30.31 ENTITLED “B-1 DISTRICTS”, SUBSECTION A (1) TO

                INSTALL A RETAIL SPORTING GOODS STORE WITH AN

                INSTRUCTIONAL MULTI-PURPOSE DEMONSTRATION AREA UPON

                THE PROPERTY KNOWN AS 360 JERICHO TURNPIKE, MINEOLA,

                NEW YORK, KNOWN AND DESIGNATED ON THE NASSAU COUNTY

                LAND AND TAX MAP AS SECTION 9, BLOCK 591, LOT 204.

 

 

Deputy Mayor Lawrence Werther requested a recess at 8:30 PM.

 

Mayor Martins and the Board of Trustees returned from the recess at 9:05 PM.

 

 

Resolution No. 143-07

 

Resolved to approve the application of On Deck Batting, LLC for a Special Permit to install a retail sporting goods store with an instructional multi-purpose demonstration area upon the property known as 360 Jericho Turnpike, subject to the 13 conditions outlined by the Village Attorney, which will be conditions placed on the certificate of occupancy for the premises.

Mayor Martins opened the Public Meeting at 9:10 PM. 

 

Mayor Martins congratulated Village residents on the Nassau Pops concert at Memorial Park.

 

Trustee Lawrence Werther also congratulated residents on the Nassau Pops concert.  Trustee Werther congratulated Nassau County Police Commissioners James Lawrence on his retirement and welcomed his replacement Commissioner James Mulvay.  Trustee Werther gave an update on the Mineola Memorial Library. 

 

Trustee Paul S. Cusato congratulated the Nassau Pops on a wonderful concert.  Trustee Cusato thanked the Mineola Fire Department for their rapid response to calls during the storm on June 26, 2007.

 

 Trustee John S. DaVanzo thanked the Nassau Pops and especially Charlie Rappa of Bay Fireworks for a terrific concert and fireworks display.

 

Mayor Martins requested a motion to close the Public Meeting at 10:00 PM.
