Resolved to increase the
single passenger taxi rate from $3.00 to $4.00 and the per hour waiting time
rate from $20.00 to $25.00.

Mayor Martins opened Work Session at 7:10 PM.
Mayor Martins introduced Jackie
Carway and members of the Evening Star Quilters who presented the Board of
Trustees with a collection of quilts to be donated to
Chief Jack Gayson of the Mineola
Fire Department reported on fire calls, mutual aid and other Fire Department
activities for the month of May.
Mark Danielson of the Mineola
Fire Department gave an update on open items and final plans for their upcoming Parade, Drill and
Block Party.
Library Board President Paul May
reported on the state of the Mineola Memorial Library. Mr. May discussed all aspects of the library
including staffing, membership, programs and finances.

Spellman reported on a Notice of Claim for a sewer back-up received by the
Village. Mr. Spellman recommended that
the Board members pass a resolution settle the claim for $5,000.00.

Scalero gave an update on the Mineola Police Department Request for
Proposals. Mr. Scalero reported that
three proposals received by the due date of June 16, 2006 were opened in the
presence of the Board of Trustees. Mr.
Scalero reported that copies of each proposal were provided to the Board
members as well as the Police Task Force Committee for review.
Mayor Martins thanked Trustee
Linda Fairgrieve for her help in providing the RFP to the parties on the list
that she provided.

Mayor Martins opened the Public Meeting at 8:25 PM.
Mayor Martins congratulated
the Mineola Pool staff on the pool opening on Saturday, June 17, 2006. Mayor Martins reported that there was a
lifeguard shortage and hoped to have a full crew in the near future. Mayor Martins thanked the VFW and American
Legion for hosting Flag Day on June 14, 2006.
Mayor Martins congratulated Charlie Melvin on becoming President of the
Leisure Club. Mayor Martins reported
that the Village had been recognized by Vision Long Island for its Downtown
Revitalization and Master Plan. Mayor Martins thanked Village Attorney John
Spellman for his diligence on the Waste Management case.

Trustee Linda Fairgrieve gave
the
Trustee Paul Cusato
congratulated the Mineola Pool Board and staff on the pool opening. Trustee Cusato reported on the upcoming
Nassau County Fireman’s drill, parade and block party.
Trustee John DaVanzo thanked
Mayor Martins recognized
Police Officer John Larson from the Third Precinct who was in the
audience.
Village Attorney John
Spellman reported on his meeting with local business owners and merchants near
the train station regarding the homeless population. Mr. Spellman reported that the merchants
expressed concern about dangerous situations created by the homeless presence
such as fire, sanitation and the overall safety of their patrons.
Mayor Martins commented on
how little we as a village are able to do about the homeless situation and how
much we rely on the Third Precinct.
Mayor Martins discussed how much county money is spent annually to
provide programs and services for the homeless.
Mayor Martins stated that he is concerned about the rights of our
residents, too.
Police Officer John Larson of
the Third Precinct discussed the departmental procedures for working with the
homeless population as will as the coalition for the homeless.
Mayor Martins requested a motion to close the Public
Meeting at 11:05 PM.
