Minutes of the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Incorporated Village of Mineola held Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue, Mineola, New York 11501.

Mayor Jack M. Martins congratulated and presented Certificates
of Achievement to students from the Mineola High School Wrestling and Track
teams for winning the County Championships. Mayor Martins also recognized and congratulated
Superintendent of School, Dr. Michael Nagler, and Principal of Mineola High
School, Edward Escobar, Athletic Supervisor, Ralph Amitrano, and Coach Dan
Guido.
Mayor Jack M. Martins called the Work Session to order at
6:45 PM.

request of Mineola Youth and Family Services for the use of Wilson Park
facilities from July 6, 2010– August 13, 2010 from 1:30 PM – 4:00 PM on Mondays
and from 12:30 PM – 4:00 PM on Tuesdays through Fridays and the use of the
Community Center and a general purpose room during inclement weather for their
summer program.

Village Clerk Joseph R. Scalero announced that Village Hall will be closed on July 5, 2010 in observance of Independence Day and stated that the holiday sanitation schedule would be in effect for that day and reminded everyone that the pool opening is Saturday June 19, 2010 at 10:00 AM.
Mayor Jack M. Martins stated that over the past several
years the playground equipment at Wilson Park had been vandalized and repaired
and to-date the vandalism still occurs. Mayor Martins displayed pictures of recent
vandalism that has occurred at the Wilson Park playground and stated that the
equipment is still useable. Because the vandalized equipment is no longer
repairable, new equipments is scheduled to be installed at the end of summer in
order not to disrupt children from playing in the park during the summer season.
Mayor Martins stated that Nassau County Police will be patrolling in the parks
in addition to their routine patrols in an effort to prevent future abuses.

Work Session at 7:12 PM.

Mayor Jack M. Martins reported that he attended a meeting with Winthrop University Hospital regarding the start of construction on their parking lot on the south side of Old Country Road, commented on the work already done at Station Plaza North, reminded everyone that the John S. DaVanzo Community Pool opening is Saturday June 19, 2010 at 10:00 AM., and stated that the Nassau Pops Concerts series starts July 2, 2010 and encouraged everyone to make an effort to attend. Mayor Martins announced that this year’s Mineola High School sports program had two winning teams, Wrestling and Track, win the County Championships and congratulated the students on a great job.
Trustee Lawrence A. Werther reported that he attended the swearing-in of new officers at the Chamber of Commerce and reminded everyone to shop Mineola and wished all dads a Happy Father’s Day.
Trustee Paul S. Cusato reported that he attended the Mineola Junior Fire Department Installation Dinner last weekend and congratulated Charles Attard as their new Captain and Firefighter of the year and also congratulated Jeff Mota as their newly elected Lieutenant and Firefighter of the Year. Trustee Cusato further congratulated Joseph Holecek as their newly elected Lieutenant. Trustee Cusato thanked the Bellerose Terrace Fire Department for their support of the Mineola Junior Fire Department and extended his congratulations to the Class of 2010.
Trustee Thomas F. Kennedy encouraged everyone to shop locally in Mineola and commented that the Mineola Athletic Association (MAA) Family Fun Day last weekend was a rousing success with a large participation by the local children and thanked everyone for their contribution to the overall success of the day. Trustee Kennedy extended his best wishes to the Girls Minor Softball team who are in the semi finals, and wished everyone a Happy Father’s Day.
Trustee Paul A. Pereira reminded residents that Leisure Passes are still available and stated that the Boy Scouts of America Troop 45 will be holding a pancake breakfast at the Knights of Columbus on Father’s Day. Trustee Pereira also extended his congratulations to the graduates of 2010.
