Minutes of the meeting of the
Board of Trustees of the Incorporated Village of Mineola held Wednesday, June
1, 2005 at the Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue, Mineola, New York.

Mayor Martins requested a
motion to approve the minutes for 4/28/05,
5/04/05, 5/11/05 and
5/18/05.
Trustee Paul S. Cusato asked
to table the motion to approve minutes until the next board meeting.
Mayor Martins explained that
the Village had been interviewing accounting firms to do our outside municipal
auditing and recommended that the Board of Trustees appoint Albrecht, Viggiano,
Zureck & Company, P.C.

Martins presented the Board of Trustees with the Tree City Award from the
National Arbor Day Foundation commemorating 20 years of participation by the
Village of Mineola. Mayor Martins
thanked all of the prior administrations, residents and employees for their
contributions.

Mayor Martins opened the Public Meeting at 7:50 PM.
Mayor Martins presented
former Village Clerk, Michael E. Arens with a plaque to thank him for his
service to the Village.
Mayor Martins reported
on the Tree City Award that the Village had received from the National Arbor
Day Foundation for the Village’s twenty years of participation in the
program. Mayor Martins thanked the
Commanders of the VFW and American Legion for hosting the Memorial Day
Parade. Mayor Martins also reported on
the moving Memorial Service held by the Fire Department for all of their
members who have passed away.
Mayor Martins recognized
Andrew Barnett, an Eagle Scout Candidate in the audience who is raising funds
for his Eagle project by selling American Flags. Mr. Barnett plans to provide a new sign and landscaping for the
Mineola Historical Society.
Mr. Barnett asked the
Mayor and the Board of Trustees to approve his plan.

Resolved to approve the
Eagle Scout project plans submitted by Andrew Barnett to provide new signage
and landscaping for the Mineola Historical Society.

Trustee Lawrence Werther congratulated the
VFW and the American Legion for a wonderful job on the Memorial Day Parade as
well as the Fire Department on the Memorial Service. Trustee Werther also congratulated the Chamber of Commerce on
their hard work and success on the Mineola Fair.
Trustee Linda Fairgrieve
thanked all of the organizations for their participation in the Memorial Day
Parade. Trustee Fairgrieve reported that the inspection at the Fire Department
was wonderful. Trustee Fairgrieve gave
the Water Department report for the month of May. Trustee Fairgrieve noted that the Village’s Annual Water
Department report was available and urged anyone with questions to contact Mr.
Booher at the Water Department. Trustee
Fairgrieve reminded everyone that water testing and sewer maintenance services
are available.
Trustee Paul S. Cusato
congratulated the Chamber of Commerce for a wonderful job on the Mineola
Fair. Trustee Cusato thanked the VFW
and the American Legion for organizing the Memorial Day Parade. Trustee Cusato reminded everyone of the
upcoming annual Portuguese Festival at Wilson Park, June 3, 2005 through June
5, 2005. Trustee Cusato announced the 24th Annual Mineola Alumni
Lacrosse game on June 24, 2005 and asked anyone interested to contact him for
details.
Trustee John S. DaVanzo
thanked the American Legion and the VFW for a wonderful Memorial Day
Parade. Trustee DaVanzo reported on the
Centennial Committee meeting that took place on May 24, 2005 and urged all
residents to get involved.
Resolution No. 167-05
Resolved to approve the
request by Commander Sal Cataldo to hold the Flag Day flag retirement ceremony
on Tuesday, June 28, 2005 at 6:00 PM at Wilson Park.
