Minutes of the meeting of the
Board of Trustees of the Incorporated Village of Mineola held Wednesday, May
18, 2005 at the Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue, Mineola, New York.

Martins opened the Work Session at 6:30 PM.
Mayor Martins recognized Centennial Committee Chairpersons Candida Maia and John DaVanzo. Mayor Martins introduced Centennial Committee member Tom Raad, who presented the Village’s official Centennial logo and discussed the Village’s plans for the yearlong celebration.
Centennial Committee member, Trustee John DaVanzo thanked Mr. Raad, Ms. Maia and Former Mayor Bob Hinck for their hard work. He also invited everyone to attend the public meeting for the Village’s Centennial on Tuesday, May 24, 2005 at 7:00 PM.

the Mineola PAL lacrosse program’s request for the use of Wilson Park on June

lot is to be utilized.

Superintendent of Public
Works, Thomas Rini reported on the Caustic Soda bid opening that occurred
earlier on May 18, 2005 and stated that only one bid package was returned of
the four that were picked up. Mr. Rini
felt that the bid was too high and requested a resolution to reject the bid and
authorize a new bid.

Caustic Soda bid results and authorize a new public bid.

Rini gave an update on the Roslyn Road Temporary Water Main Relocation project.
Water
Department Supervisor, Frederick Booher gave the Water Department’s monthly
report and said that the Annual Water Quality report was completed and would be
distributed by May 31, 2005.

Mayor Martins opened the
Public Meeting at 7:50 PM.
Mayor Martins reported
that the Roslyn Road Grade Crossing Elimination Project was underway and
thanked everyone for their patience. He also congratulated the members of the
Junior Fire Department and their advisors on the installation dinner.
Mayor
Martins announced the Shoppers Parking signs have been installed around the
Village to identify municipal parking lots.
He thanked the Department of Public Works for their hard work on this
project and other spring clean-up projects around the Village.
Mayor
Martins offered his congratulations to the newly elected School Board Trustees
Lawrence Carroll and Mary Ellen Williams. Mayor Martins reported that both the
budget and bond issue were voted down and he looks forward to a resolution to
both. Mayor Martins also congratulated
the new members of the Chamber of Commerce.
Mayor
Martins gave an update on the Social Services parking issue and a recent
meeting with interested parties about the impact of Family Court moving from
Westbury to Mineola. He reported that the MTA has scheduled meetings for June
14, 2005 at Jericho Terrace, June 16, 2005 at Floral Park Terrace and June 21,
2005 in Hicksville. All meetings are
scheduled from 4-6 PM and 7-9 PM to discuss the impact of the Main Line
Corridor Improvements and urged residents to come out.
Trustee
Lawrence A. Werther congratulated new members of the Chamber of Commerce, Phil
Fortuna and Bill Greene. He also
reminded everyone that the Village is co-sponsoring the Mineola Fair with the
Chamber of Commerce on May 21, 2004. Mr. Werther thanked Mary Gallagher for her
service on the library board and welcomed new board member Terrence
Timlin. He also reported on upcoming
events at the Library.

Linda Fairgrieve gave the Justice Court report.

Paul S. Cusato reported on a Stroke Assessment Program at Winthrop-University
Hospital. He offered his
congratulations to Junior Fire Department Captains John Paul Macedo and Kati
Heerdt who were selected 2005 Junior Firefighters of the year.
Trustee
John S. DaVanzo also congratulated the Junior Fire Department Captains. He also
reminded everyone to sign up for Leisure Passes and reported that the pool will
be open on June 18, 2005.
Mayor
Martins unveiled the logo for the Village’s Centennial and thanked the
Centennial Committee members Bob Hinck, Candida Maia, John DaVanzo and Tom
Raad.
