WHEREAS, the Secretary of the
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is
Authorized under Title I of
the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, as amended, to make grants
to state and other units of general local government to help finance Community
Development Programs; and
WHEREAS, the COUNTY OF NASSAU
(County) and VILLAGE OF MINEOLA(Subrecipient) entered in an Cooperation
Agreement to participate in a Nassau County Community Development Program, for
a term of three (3) years to commence the 1st day of October 2008 and end the August 31, 2011, under Title
I of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, as amended ; and
WHEREAS, the Secretary of
has approved a Community
Development Program for the 35th Program Year, Federal fiscal year
2008; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to said
Cooperative Agreement the COUNTY and the SUBRECIPIENT have agreed to undertake
project activities using Community Development Block Grant Funds to be received
by the COUNTY from the U.S.Department of Housing and Urban Development; and
WHEREAS, the Secretary of the
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has approved an application
for Community Development Block Grant Funds, under Title I of the Housing and
Community Development Act of 1974, as
amended submitted by the COUNTY and participating municipalities for the 35th
Program Year, Federal Fiscal Year 2008; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees of the INC.VILLAGE OF MINEOLA, deems it to be
in the public interest of the SUBRECIPIENT to enter into said proposed Agreement for the purpose of undertaking
project activities, under Title I of the Housing and Community Development Act
of 1974, as amended,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT
RESOLVED, that Jack M. Martins, Mayor of the Incorporated Village of Mineola be
and hereby is authorized to execute an Agreement between the SUBRECIPIENT and
the COUNTY OF NASSAU for the purpose of undertaking project activities under
Title I of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, as amended, for
the 35th Program Year, Federal Fiscal Year 2008.

Mayor Martins opened the Public Meeting at 7:30 pm.
Mayor Martins reported that
he attended the Mineola Junior Fire Department’s installation of officers and
awards dinner and commended the Juniors and the members of the Mineola Fire
Department who help make our Juniors program a success. Mayor Martins also reported that he attended
the recent Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout Ceremony and congratulated the
scouts for their achievements. Mayor
Martins also reminded residents that
Mayor Martins reminded all
businesses and commercial property owners that, with warmer weather upon us,
they need to keep their properties and sidewalks clean and free of weeds.
Mayor Martins also reported
that he had been in contact with the New York State Department of
Transportation in an effort to get curb cuts installed at the new CVS property
for use during construction. Mayor
Martins also gave an update on progress of the NYSDOT Roslyn Road Grade
Crossing Elimination Project.
Trustee Lawrence Werther
congratulated the Mineola Junior Fire Department and reported on the success of
the annual Mineola Fair. Trustee Werther
also thanked all those individuals and groups who made the Fair a success,
particularly the Chamber of Commerce.
Trustee Werther also
discussed the New York State-imposed limits on village Registrar fees and noted
that these fees are set by the state at much lower rates than the State
charges.
