Minutes – Board Meeting 05/04/05

 

Minutes of the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Incorporated Village of Mineola held Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at the Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue, Mineola, New York.

Mayor Martins was excused due to a prior engagement.  Deputy Mayor Lawrence Werther opened the Work Session at 6:30 PM.

Resolved to approve the Mineola Volunteer Ambulance Corps’ request to hold a Fundraiser Car Wash on July 16, 2005 and August 20, 2005 at the Community Center.

Resolved to approve the request by the Mineola Girl Scouts for the use of Wilson Park for a family picnic for approximately 100 people on Saturday, May 28, 2005 from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM (rain date: Sunday, May 29, 2005). Be it further resolved that use of the roller rink is subject to compliance with insurance, safety and equipment requirements.

Resolved to approve the Mineola School District’s request for the use of the Mineola Village Pool for it’s Special Education Summer Program for the following dates: 7/11/05, 7/18/05 and 7/25/05, 8/1/05 and 8/8/05 from 11:15 AM to 12:15 PM.

Resolved to approve the installation of a “Deaf Child Area” sign on Marcellus Road between Jericho Turnpike and Jackson Avenue.

Department of Public Works Superintendent, Thomas Rini, gave an update on the Roslyn Road Temporary Water Main Relocation Project.  He reported on the Phase II Storm Water Management Program.   Mr. Rini introduced Mr. Anthony O. Conetta of Dvirka and Bartilucci, who is an expert in the field.  The Board of Trustees received copies of the Phase II Storm Water Report and Mr. Conetta was available to answer technical questions about the report that is to be submitted to the EPA.

 

Deputy Mayor Lawrence A. Werther requested a motion to close the Work Session at 7:10 PM.

Deputy Mayor Werther opened the public meeting at 7:30 PM. 

 

Trustee Lawrence Werther opened the meeting by thanking Mike Arens for all of his hard work. Mr. Werther reported that this was Village Clerk Michael Arens’ last meeting with the Village and wished him well.

 

Trustee Lawrence Werther discussed Assembly Bill #886 and reported that Assemblyman Thomas Di Napoli and Assemblywoman Maureen O’Connell were in support of the bill.   He also reminded everyone of the upcoming Mineola Fair on Saturday, May 21, 2005 from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

 

Trustee John DaVanzo had nothing to report, but commented on the moving Firefighter’s Memorial Service that he attended in Port Washington with Trustee Paul Cusato. 

 

Trustee Linda Fairgrieve gave the monthly Water Department report and announced that Well #6 was back in service.  Mrs. Fairgrieve discussed lead and copper testing performed by the Water Department.  She also highly recommended annual sewer maintenance to avoid back-up problems.  .

 

Trustee Paul S. Cusato thanked the Girl Scouts for their participation in the Earth Day clean up at Memorial Park on April 23, 2005.   Mr. Cusato reported on the Firefighter’s Memorial that he attended in Port Washington.  He wished everyone a Happy Mother’s Day and thanked Mike Arens for his hard work and service to the Village.
