Minutes –  Board Meeting 04/26/07

 

Minutes of the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Incorporated Village of Mineola

held Thursday, April 26, 2007 at Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue, Mineola, New York 11501.

Mayor Martins re-opened the budget hearing for Fiscal Year 2007/2008 at 7:00 PM.

 

Mayor Martins opened the meeting by suggesting that the board members consider adding an extra $100,000.00 to the budget line for road repairs.  Mayor Martins added that this would cost approximately $10.00 per household.

 

Trustee Lawrence Werther thanked the department heads for working within the budget.  Trustee Werther added that he is pleased with the savings that the Village will realize with the bond refinancing that could be put back into the Village’s infrastructure. 

 

Trustee Linda Fairgrieve stated that she was satisfied with the budget and is in favor of adding the additional $100,000.00 to the budget line for safer roads and would like to see the Village paving two miles per year.

 

Trustee Paul Cusato thanked Village Treasurer for his work on the 2007/2008 budget.  Trustee Cusato stated that he is favor of the additional $100,000.00 for road repairs and paving.  Trustee Cusato stated that he supports the budget and tax certiorari proposal.

 

Trustee John DaVanzo stated that he was satisfied with the budget and that the 3.8% tax increase was reasonable.  Trustee DaVanzo thanked the Village Treasurer and his staff for a good job. 

 

Mayor Martins invited residents to join the board members at the Arbor Day tree planting ceremony on Friday, April 27, 2007 at the Westbury Avenue entrance to Wilson Park at 8:30 AM.  Mayor Martins also invited volunteers to the annual Earth Day clean-up on Saturday, April 28, 2007 from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM at the Strom Water Basin at Memorial Park.

 

Village Attorney John Spellman stated that he thought that the proposed budget for 2007/2008 was a very responsible budget and that both the Department Heads and Board Members have done everything to keep taxes low. 

 

Resolution No. 91-07

 

Resolved to approve the 2007/2008 budget as presented with the addition of  a $100,000.00 increase to the budget line for road repaving.
