Minutes of the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Incorporated Village of Mineola

held Wednesday, April 18, 2007at Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue, Mineola, New York 11501.

Resolution No. 81-07

 

Resolved to approve the Cross Street School’s request for the use of the Wilson Park picnic area on Friday, June 1, 2007 (rain date, June 5, 2007) from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM for their Annual 5th grade picnic.

Resolved to approve the Long Island Portuguese Lions Club’s request for the use of Wilson Park on Sunday, May 27, 2007, for their Annual Walk-a-thon.

Resolution No. 83-07

 

Resolved to approve the request by Corpus Christi Church for the use of village streets for a devotional procession on Sunday, May 13, 2007 from approximately 9:30 PM to 10:30 PM utilizing the following route:

 

                        Garfield Avenue East to Willis Avenue South to Second Street

                        Return North on Willis Avenue to Garfield Avenue West to Corpus

                        Christi Church

Resolution No. 84-07

 

Resolved to approve the request by Corpus Christi Church to have parking restrictions lifted on both sides of Garfield Avenue, Cleveland Avenue and Grant Avenue, between Mineola Boulevard and Willis Avenue, from approximately 2:45 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, April 30, 2007 for their Confirmation Ceremony Mass.

Superintendent of Buildings, Daniel B. Whalen, gave the Building Department report for the month of March 2007 as well as an update on graffiti.

 

 

Resolution No. 85-07

 

Resolved to approve a 90-day extension of the Building Permit issued to C.N.P. d/b/a Carlinos Restaurant located a 204 Jericho Turnpike.

Mineola Fire Department Chief Scott Holliday reported on the history of Mineola Fire Department Company No. 2,  celebrating it’s 100th Anniversary.  Chief Holliday also read a letter written by Warden Danielson who was unable to attend the meeting.  

 

Resolution No. 86-07

 

Resolved to amend Resolution No. 63-07 authorizing the Willis Avenue School Zone Speed Limit sign to read “20 mph, School Zone Speed School Days from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM”.

Resolution No. 87-07

 

Resolved to increase the fee for the Village of Mineola Summer Recreation Program for the first child from $125.00 to $150.00 and with the fee for each additional child remaining at $75.00.

Superintendent of Public Works Thomas J. Rini announced that the Village of Mineola will commemorate Arbor Day on Friday, April 27, 2007 with a tree planting in Wilson Park near the Historical Society beginning at 8:30 AM.   Mr. Rini also announced that the Earth Day commemoration will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2007 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Memorial Park. 

 

 

 

Superintendent Rini presented the Board with a proposed increase for Mineola Summer Seasonal Employee salaries.   

 

Mayor Martins requested a motion to table the request for the proposed increase to allow the Board members more time to review the schedule.

Resolved to approve the placement of 4’ x 8’ signs on Village property by the Mineola Volunteer Ambulance Corps for their fund drive at specified locations.

A Public Hearing was held at 8:10 PM at the Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue, Mineola, NY  11501, in order to receive public comment upon the following:

 

            TO CONSIDER THE APPLICATION OF THE MINEOLA VOLUNTEER

            AMBULANCE CORPS FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A LENGTH OF

            SERVICE AWARD PROGRAM (LOSAP) ACCORDING TO WHICH

            VOLUNTEER AMBULANCE CORPS MEMBERS WHO QUALIFY MAY

            RECEIVE BENEFITS AT RETIREMENT AGE.

 

 

N.B.: THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES CANNOT ITSELF ESTABLISH A LOSAP PROGRAM FOR THE MINEOLA VOLUNTEER AMBULANCE CORPS SINCE THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE PROGRAM REQUIRES A COMMUNITY-WIDE REFERENDUM.

 

 

Mayor Martins requested a motion to reserve decision and close the hearing at 9:55 PM.

Mayor Martins opened the 2007/2008 Budget Hearing at 10:25 PM.

 

Village Treasurer Giacomo M. Ciccone gave an overview of the Tentative Budget for the fiscal year June 1, 2007 to May 31, 2008.

 

Water Department Supervisor Frederick Booher presented the budget for the Village of Mineola Water Department. 

 

Mayor Martins requested a motion to close the meeting and continue the budget hearing on April 19, 2007.
