Minutes of the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Incorporated Village of Mineola

held Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue, Mineola, New York 11501.

Mayor Martins opened the Public Hearing at 6:40 PM.

 

Mayor Martins gave an overview and explained the need for the proposed changes to the parking fine schedule.

 

A Public Hearing was held at 6:40 PM at the Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue, Mineola, New York, 11501 in order to receive public comment upon the following:

 

            A PROPOSED LOCAL LAW AMENDING CHAPTER 60 OF THE

            MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE INCORPORATED VILLAGE OF

            MINEOLA ENTITLES “TRAFFIC AND VEHICLES”, SECTION

            60.100 ENTITLED “PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION OF

            CHAPTER”, SUBSECTION B.  ENTITLED “MINIMUM FINES”

            IN ORDER TO INCREASE THE MINIMUM FINES FOR

            PARKING VIOLATIONS WITHIN THE INCORPORATED

            VILLAGE OF MINEOLA. 

 

Resolution No. 79-08

 

Resolved to approve the proposed Local Law amending Chapter 60 of the Municipal Code of the Incorporated Village of Mineola to increase the minimum fines for parking violations within the Incorporated Village of Mineola effective June 1, 2008.

Resolved to approve the request by the Jackson Avenue School for the use of Wilson Park for their annual 5th Grade Picnic on Thursday, June 5, 2008 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM (rain date June 6, 2008).

Mineola Volunteer Ambulance Corps President, Thomas Devany discussed rumors of   Third Party billing.  Mr. Devaney explained that a Third Party billing strategy had been discussed but stated that it would not be implemented by MVAC in the Village of Mineola. 

 

Mr. Devaney thanked Mayor Martins and the Department of Public Works for the renovations to the restrooms and shower at the Mineola Volunteer Ambulance Corps Headquarters.

 

Village Attorney John Spellman gave an explanation of the Homestead Tax and the re-assessment program that took place in the Village of Mineola. 

 

Village Treasurer Giacomo Ciccone reported that the CHIPS stipend had been increased from $124,924.00 to $152,487.00 and indicated that budget lines needed to be changed to reflect the increase.

Resolved to approve the 2008/2009 fiscal year budget as amended on April 14, 2008 and April 16, 2008.

Village Attorney John Spellman reported that after the Board’s preliminary approval of the application by Cingular Wireless PCS, LLC, the matter was forwarded to the Nassau County Planning Board for review.  The Nassau County Planning Board had no objection to the application and Mr. Spellman suggested that the Board offer a final vote on the matter.  

 

Resolution No. 90-08

 

Resolved to approve the application Cingular Wirelss, PCS, LLC for the modifications and additions of public utility wireless telecommunication antennas on the property known as 205 Old Country Road, Mineola, NY.

Mayor Martins opened the Public Meeting at 8:45 PM.

 

Mayor Martins commended the Chamber of Commerce on the Taste of Mineola event. 

 

Trustee Lawrence A. Werther congratulated the Chamber of Commerce on the Taste of Mineola event.

 

Trustee Paul Cusato congratulated the Mineola Fire Department Officers on their re-elections.  Trustee Cusato reported on the Neighborhood Watch meetings.

 

Trustee Thomas Kennedy congratulated the Chamber of Commerce on the Taste of Mineola event and the Opening Day Parade.

 

Trustee Paul A. Pereira reflected on his first month in office and reported on some of the events he had attended.
