Mayor Martins and the Board of Trustees discussed the presentation of Streetscape Improvements for Jericho Turnpike at the March 2, 2005 meeting. Mayor Martins and the Trustees agreed that they should vote to move forward with the project in order to have it completed by the Village’s Centennial and with the understanding that they would have the ability to make changes to the proposed plan as needed. The members of the board agreed that the pedestrian crosswalk on Jericho Turnpike should be clearly marked and located in the area of the Knights of Columbus Hall. They also agreed to omit the proposed outdoor dining areas that would utilize bump-outs and eliminate valuable parking spaces. Trustee Santosus suggested having the bump-outs coincide with the fire hydrants, as this would break-up the parking and also allow for safer access to the hydrants.
Resolved to approve the Streetscape Reconstruction Project for Jericho Turnpike from Mineola Boulevard to Willis Avenue with the above recommendations and allow for the members of the board to make changes to the plan as needed.
