Village Clerk Joseph R. Scalero reminded residents that Village Hall will be closed Friday February 12, 2010 for Lincoln’s Birthday and Monday February 15, 2010 for President’s Day. Village Clerk Scalero also announced the holiday sanitation collection schedule for those weeks and reminded everyone that this schedule will be posted at Village Hall, on the village website, Mineola TV and published in the Mineola American.
Superintendent of Buildings Daniel B. Whalen presented a January 2010 department financial report.

Deputy Mayor Lawrence A. Werther congratulated the Mineola High School students who put together fundraisers for earthquake victims in Haiti, raising over $12,000, and applauded the faculty members who worked with them and the parents of each of those students.
Trustee Paul S. Cusato reported on the Mineola Historical Society meeting that he attended and congratulated President Neil Young on an outstanding job; applauded Mineola High School students on their pancake breakfast fundraiser for Haiti earthquake victims, and announced the passing of Mineola Fire Department Ex-Captain and Warden Lewis Buttacoli and recognized his many years of service to the community and the high regard the community and department had for Warden Buttacoli.
Trustee Thomas F. Kennedy also congratulated the students, faculty, and volunteers from Mineola High School on a tremendous fundraising event and thanked everyone for their support.
Trustee Paul A. Pereira stated that the Haiti fundraiser was a district-wide event that included elementary schools, middle school and other organizations which helped in collecting over $12,000, reported that the students served pancakes to 800-900 people, and thanked local businesses who generously donated their time and supplies. Trustee Pereira also recognized Lewis Buttacoli for his devoted service to the community.
Village Attorney John M. Spellman gave a status report on
the Garden City Verizon Construction at 13th Street indicating that
both temporary air handlers are off-line – one has been removed, the other will
remain on site (but disconnected), for emergency use only and that the sound
proofing and screening is scheduled to be completed in mid-March with no
further construction planned thereafter.
