Minutes of the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Incorporated Village of Mineola

held Wednesday, January 11,  2006 Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue, Mineola, New York 11501

Mayor Martins excused Trustee Linda Fairgrieve who was called away on a personal matter. 

 

Mayor Martins opened the Work Session at 6:45 PM.

Trustee Paul Cusato presented the Board with a preliminary proposal for usage of the Mineola Community Center as requested by Mayor Martins at the September 21, 2005 meeting.  

 

Mayor Martins suggested providing current Community Center users and the Recreation Department with copies of the proposal for review and comment. 

 

Mayor Martins requested a motion to table the vote on the proposed Community Center Usage Policy.

Resolved to extend the 29th Year Community Development contract to October 31, 2006.

Resolution No. 8-06

 

Resolved to approve the Irish American Society’s request to hang a banner (language & design subject to Board approval) publicizing the 56th Annual Saint Patrick’s Day Parade across Willis Avenue at Banbury Road from February 1, 2006 to March 10, 2006.

Resolved to approve the Mineola Civic Association’s request for the use of a classroom for their monthly meetings on the following Tuesday evenings as well as an additional evening (date to be submitted separately) for Meet the Candidates Night.

Resolved to approve the Corpus Christi CYO’s request for the use of the Community Center Gymnasium through mid February when available.

Trustee John DaVanzo gave a summary of the Mineola Ambulance Corps activities for 2005.

 

Mayor Martins had invited the Mineola Fire Department Parade and Block Party Committee to the Board meeting to give an update on the activities planned for July 2006.  None of the committee members were able to make the meeting.   Mayor Martins explained that this event includes fire departments from all of Nassau County and would require planning and coordination.  Mayor Matins asked Trustee John DaVanzo to contact the committee members for the next Board meeting.

 

Mayor Martins requested a motion to go into Executive Session at 7:15PM.

Resolved to approve the hiring of Bryan Landini as a full-time laborer in the Sanitation Department as of January 11, 2006.
